Again I remoistened it the 19th . I examined the plant then guess what , it has actually produced some roots though funnily enough not where I did the cut but below it as it seems the soil slipped down. Oh well it seems to be ok. I will give it a couple of weeks more & then will try to transplant it.

How exciting! I haven't tried air-layering on purpose, although I have had a few shrubs here set root where they accidently touch the ground. Good luck, I hope it continues to be successful!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're having success with the Carissa air-layer. I was planning to do mine this year.
ReplyDeleteYou will need to get some roots going above where you girdled the stem though, or the new plant won't survive.
Thanks guys for stopping by :)
ReplyDeleteRoots have started growing but as I said I will give it 2 more weeks then I will reexamine it. Though to be honest with the hot weather we're having I might need to remoisten it soon.
I tried layering (on the ground) as you mentioned Curbstone on small shrubs & it worked fine really.
ReplyDeleteAll the best

Very interesting blog. Are their many rose growers in UAE?
ReplyDeleteHi Chris & thanks for stopping by :)
ReplyDeleteVery few Rose varities can survive our hot & humid weather. I've seen some professional nurseries offering excellent blooms during winter time. Personally I've lost two rose plants & never bothered again.
BTW love your rose photos :)
All the best,
Ibrahim
I have never tried this method before. You must be quite an expert. Very interesting!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Autumn Belle.
ReplyDeleteI am no expert really :)
Just started reading about propagating plants & I simply experiment with what I learn. My plant cuttings success rate has been 3/10 so far which is very low :)
